Comets split day in Huntington Beach

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (2/28/2020) – In their first contest of the season, Palomar went 1-1 on the day. In their opening match, Palomar lost 4-1 to Rio Hondo College, but was able to turn it around to defeat Santa Ana College 3-2.

In the No. 1 seed match, Carsyn Emerson and Alina Lecakes-Jones won 2-0 (21-18, 21-17). Arielle Vannoy and Alana Lacangan won 2-0 (21-19, 21-14) in the No. 2 seed match. In the No. 3 seed was Stephanie Romo and Tabitha Onufrak. The duo lost their first set 21-5, but came back to the second and third sets (21-13, 15-9) to win 2-1. The No. 4 seed consisting of Greta Guzman and Mayu Yawata lost 2-0. The pair hung in their in the first set falling only 24-22, but couldn't hang on the second and fell 21-6. Finally, Mariah Howard and Claire Saalfeld lost 2-0 in the No. 5 seed. After losing 21-10 in set one, the pair fought back to ultimately lose by 2, 21-19.

The team is now 1-1 and will face Saddleback College and Golden West College on Friday, Mar. 6 at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively,
