Former Comet Olthoff selected by Angels in MLB draft

SAN MARCOS, CA (7/12/2021) -- Former standout Comet pitcher, Braden Olthoff, was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the ninth round of the Major League Baseball draft. Hailing from El Camino High School, Olthoff pitched for the Comets during the 2017-2019 seasons before transferring to Tulane University in Louisiana. 

During his time as a Comet, Olthoff had an ERA of 3.08 over the two seasons. In his sophomore season, he started eight games finishing the season with a record of 6-1 with five saves. During his career, he allowed 43 runs on 85 hits and walked 29 batters. 

At Tulane, he started 17 games for the Green Waves to earn an ERA of 2.87. He allowed 41 runs on 93 hits, and recorded 138 strikeouts, 91 during the 2021 season. Olthoff finished the season with a 6-3 record. He had two complete games, one in each season. Olthoff was named to the All-American Athletic Conference Second Team after the season ended.
