Hall of Famer Dempsey passes away from COVID-19 complications

SAN MARCOS, CA (Updated 4/5/2020) -- Palomar Hall of Famer, Tom Dempsey passed away from complications from the COVID-19 virus on Saturday. The Comet Nation mourns Dempsey and sends thoughts and prayers to his family. He was 73 years old. 


(3/31/2020) – Palomar Hall of Famer, Tom Dempsey, has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The Comet Nation sends thoughts and prayers to Dempsey and his family following his diagnosis.

Dempsey played football for the Comets as a placekicker after graduating from San Dieguito High School Academy. He went undrafted in 1969 when he finished his season at Palomar and went on to have a successful professional career playing for the New Orleans Saints (1969-70), Philadelphia Eagles (1971-74), Los Angeles Rams (1975-76), Houston Oilers (1977) and Buffalo Bills (1978-79). He was inducted into the Palomar Hall of Fame in 2012. 

Dempsey resides in Metairie, Louisiana with his wife.
