PALOMAR COLLEGE PRODUCES 82 SPRING-SPORT SCHOLAR-ATHLETES

SAN MARCOS— A total of 82 Palomar College spring-sport athletes have met qualifying standards to earn All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete Honors. Minimum qualifications for the award include successful participation on an intercollegiate athletic team, the completion of 12 semester units and a 3.0 grade-point average on a four-point scale during the season of competition.

The honorees include 22 members of the baseball team; 11 members Palomar's state-runner-up softball team; eight members of the Comets' PCAC-Champion women's track and field team; seven members of the women's beach volleyball team; six members each from the men's golf and women's swim teams; five each from the women's basketball and men's swim teams; three members each from the men's tennis and men's volleyball teams and one women's tennis player. Administered by the Athletic Department but not officially affiliated with, nor recognized by the PCAC, the total includes five members of the Palomar College Cheer Squad.

Of 176 participating spring-sport athletes, a total of 127 Comets –72 percent– finished the semester with 12-or-more credit units passed. Collectively, the aggregate grade point average for those student athletes calculates to a solid 3.08 (or "B" average).

Individually, nine Comet athletes posted perfect 4.0 (straight-A) grade-point averages while passing 12-or-more units during their competitive season of sport: Audrey Braun, Mckenna Crawford and Sarah Fisher of the softball team; Emily Lopp and Mayu Yawata of the women's beach volleyball team; men's golfer Zach Brown, men's swimmer George Peterson, women's tennis player Grace Powell and women's track and field team member Maia Chaffin. Additionally, there were 33 spring-sport student athletes to post semester GPAs between 3.50 and 3.99.
