PC blitzes San Bernardino 91-34, falls to state champions
SAN BERNARDINO / SAN JACINTO (1/23/2019) / (UPDATED 1/24/2019) – The Palomar women's basketball team, ranked No. 10 in the state in the California Community College Sports Information poll, raced out to a 26-0 lead after one quarter and destroyed host San Bernardino Valley on Thursday night 91-34 to advance to 2-0 in the PCAC North on Thursday evening.
On Friday, the Comets (16-6 overall) saw their PCAC North record dip to 2-1 when they went on the road and lost 72-64 to defending CCCAA State Champion Mt. San Jacinto. The two teams are 1-1 in two meetings, with Palomar having defeated Mt. San Jacinto in the Eagles' tournament earlier in the season.
Thursday's Game
Coach Leigh Marshall's Comets stretched their lead to 55-9 at halftime and led 69-22 through three quarters.
Keiara Barton (Vista Murrieta High) led four Comets in double figures with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.
Palomar's other double-figure scores were:
Clarissa Taite (Mira Mesa High) led the Comets with 13 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists.
De De Valenzuela (San Marcos High) with 12 points, 2 assists, 2 steals and a rebound.
And Sara Ahmadpour (Mission Hills High) with 12 points.
Other major contributors were Imari Cooley (Vista Murrieta High) with 6 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals); Julie Saelee (Monterey Trails in Elk Gove, CA) with 9 points and 4 assists; and Nalei'a Brackett (Carlsbad High) with 3 assists.
