Comet Classic will run Thursday through Sunday in The Dome

SAN MARCOS (11-13-2018) -- Coach Leigh Marshall's women's basketball team, coming off the championship of the San Jacinto Lions Club Tournament when they blew out defending state champion Mt. San Jacinto in the finals, will host the Palomar College Comet Classic Presdented by The Fegan Family on Friday through Sunday in The Dome.

The Comets will play the feature game on opening night on Friday, facing Orange Coast College at 7 p.m.

Other opening-day matchups will pit West Hills Lemoore vs. Riverside City College at 1 p.m., West Los Angeles vs. East Los Angeles at 3 p.m. and Santa Monica vs. Grossmont at 5 p.m.

The Palomar-Orange Coast winner will play the Santa Monica-Grossmont winner in the feature semifinal game on Friday at 7 p.m. In the other half of the bracket the 5 p.m. semifinal game will send the West Hills Lemoore-Riverside winner against the West L.A.-East L.A. winner, with the championship game slated for 4 p.m. Sunday.

The consolation championship will be decided at noon Sunday, with the third-place game preceding the tournament championship game at 2 p.m.

Palomar will bring a 4-0 win-loss record into the tournament.

Records going into this week for the other teams in the tournament: East Los Angeles 5-1, West Los Angeles 3-3, West Hills Lemoore 1-2, Riverside 1-3, Grossmont 0-2, Santa Monica 0-0.

The Comets won the Comet Classic a year ago on the way to being ranked No. 1 among California community colleges entering state championship weekend.
