Comets give streaking state No. 12 MiraCosta a huge Halloween scare

SAN MARCOS (10-31-2018) –Palomar's women's volleyball team gave rival MiraCosta, the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division champion that has a 19-2 record on the season, has won its last 15 matches in a row and is ranked No. 12 in the state, a major Halloween night scare on Wednesday evening in The Dome.

The Spartans eventually prevailed 3 sets to 1, holding off the Comets 25-21, 25-19, 15-25, 25-13. Palomar led 19-9 in the third set.

Noemi Ramos, the 5-foot-11 outside hitter and middle blocker out of Orange Glen High School who has led the Comets all season long, put down 13 kills against the Spartans and added four service aces.

Also for Palomar, Alina Lecakes-Jones (Rancho Bernardo High) contributed five kills. Setter Mikayla Seiler (Vista Murrieta High) had 25 assists and 10 digs. Alex Sandejas (Vista High) led in digs with 12. And Alexis Amador (Orange Glen High) contributed four service aces.

Coach Karl Seiler's Palomar team remains in fourth place in the North Division as the season winds down. The Comets are 6-14 overall but are 5-5 in their last 10 matches.

Palomar, which saw a two-match win streak go by the boards, will close out its conference schedule on Friday when the Comets visit Mt. San Jacinto at 5 p.m., then will play two PCAC cross-over matches (which don't count in the conference standings) on Nov. 7 and Nov. 14 to end the 2018 season.
