Palomar goes unbeaten, wrestles to championship at 2018 Mt. SAC Duals

WALNUT (9-15-2018) – Coach Brody Barrios' Palomar wrestlers won the season-opening Mt. SAC Duals on Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College, going 4-0 for the day.

The Comets defeated Modesto College from Northern California in the championship match.

Raul Ortiz, a freshman from Scotts Valley (CA) High School, and Mace Anderson, a freshman out of Harbor High School in Santa Cruz, CA, both swept unbeaten through the tournament for Palomar.

Both finished with records of 4 wins and 0 losses for the day.

Ortiz wrestled at 133 pounds. Anderson wrestled in the 165-pound weight class.

The Comets received a big boost from four wrestlers out of CIF San Diego Section power San Marcos High School.

Palomar, which will be trying to better last season's sixth-place team finish in last season's CCCAA State Tournament in 2018, will be off until the Santa Ana College Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 29.

On Oct. 10, the Comets will open their home season at the Palomar Dome against Cerritos College, the defending CCCAA State Duals team champion. The first bout is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Falcons finished fourth in last year's State Tournament at San Joaquin Delta College  in Stockton behind state champion Fresno City College.
