PC swimmer Blackburn signs with D-II Western State Colorado

SAN MARCOS (6-09-2018) -- Palomar's Rebekah Blackburn has accepted a swimming scholarship to Western State Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado.

The Mountaineers are members of the Rocky Mountain Conference.

Blackburn, a sophomore out of Escondido High School, was the leadoff swimmer for Palomar's state community college championship 800-yard relay team that also included Violet Stewart on the second leg, Madalyn Johnson on the third leg and anchor woman Jordann Heimback.

Blackburn, Stewart, Johnson and Heimback swam to a 7:53.17 time in the sate meet at De Anza College Aquatics Center to defeat runner-up San Joaaquijn Delta of Stockton, which swam 7:53.95, becoming the only team other than Orange Coast, which won the other seven women's and men's relay events, to the CCCAA State Women's Swimming Diving Championships on May 3-5 in in Cupertino.

In the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Championships on April 19-21 that the Comets hosted at Wallace Memorial Pool, Blackburn won the 100-yard freestyle in 53.87 and led off Palomar's team that also included Stewart on the second leg, Heimback on the third leg and anchor Sydney Thomas that won the 400 freestyle relay event in 3:38.80.
