San Diego Mesa Sweeps Comets in PCAC Dual Swim Meet

San Marcos--  The San Diego Mesa men's and women's swim teams invaded Palomar's Wallace Memorial Pool on Friday and came away with wins in both team competitions, outscoring the Comet men 204-81 and women 154-107.

On the women's side, Palomar's Jordann Heimback and Rebekah Blackburn more than held their own against the Olympians.  Heimback won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:15.17 and the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.83, took a second in the 200-freestyle in 2:01.08 and joined Blackburn on the Comets' winning 200-yard freestyle relay team, which clocked 1:43.30. Blackburn also won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.49 and the 100-yard freestyle in 55.30.

In the men's races, the highlight of the meet was an impressive come-from-behind win by Palomar's Jarad Altman in the 500-yard freestyle, besting Mesa's Blake Wixom after trailing for 490 yards of the race with a time of 4:59.11.  Altman also took second to the same Blake Wixom in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:53.23 and swam the anchor leg on the Comets' second-finishing 200-yard free relay team, which finished in 1:35.38, just a second behind Mesa's winning effort.  Palomar's Toby Fast also produced a first for the Comets, posting a 2:07.09 mark in the 200-yard butterfly.

Coach Jem McAdams Comet swimmers will participate in the Riverside CC Mini Invitational on Apr. 6 in a final tune up for the annual three-day PCAC Championship Meet, scheduled for Apr. 19-21 at Palomar.
