Men’s Basketball Season comes to an End; 4 Comets Receive All-Conference Recognition

The Comets run at the post season title is stopped short in a close game that ended with the comets leaving empty handed. With the Comets leading for most of the game, it was a late surge by Long Beach College that ran the final score 80-74. The Comets finished off their season 16-14 and look to next year as they will have a lot to work off after a successful season.

Four Comets are recognized for their performance on the year, receiving acceptance into the 2017-18 PCAC North All-Conference Team. Receiving First-Team votes are Matt Meyers and Jackson Strong, Second-Team is LaVale Coleman-Bell, and with Honorable Mention is Matt Beeler.

Matt Meyers (First-Team), a sophomore from San Marcos, CA, is the first to be elected to the All-Conference team. Meyers was second on the team in points per game with 17.6 totaling 529 points on the season. Meyers started in all 30 games for the Comets this season acting as a leader and demonstrating his ability almost averaging a double-double with 9.1 rebounds per game. His 9.1 rebounds per game led the Comets and was a big contributor to their success on the season. One of Meyer's best games came against Mira Costa where he scored 33 points and collected 12 rebounds earning himself a double-double.

Jackson Strong (First-Team), a sophomore out of Torrey Pines, CA, led the Comets in his campaign with 18.5 points per game with 555 on the season. Strong finished his second year at Palomar racking up 985 points scored in his career. This performance eclipsed his freshman season where Strong received 2nd team recognition in his first year as a Comet. Strong shot 40.6% from the 3 point line, which led the Comets as he made 127-313 3's shot on the season. In his 30 games started at Palomar this year, Strong was able to average 4.7 rebounds a game and almost a steal every game played.

LaVale Coleman-Bell (Second-Team), a sophomore from Pheonix, AZ, received second team recognition for the 2017-18 Comets. Coleman-Bell averaged 14.5 points per game which was 3rd for the Comets. In his two seasons at Palomar, Coleman-Bell averaged 13.8 points per game and scored 605 points (247 this season). Along with his good shooting numbers, Coleman-Bell averaged 6.6 rebounds per game and 2.6 assists per game.

Matt Beeler (Honorable Mention), a sophomore from Poway, CA, played both of his first two season at Palomar College as a starter. This season, Beeler scored 170 points with 6.1 points per game and averaged 6.9 points per game in his career for the Comets. Beeler collected an average of 3.9 assists per game and 3.8 rebounds per game, 3.3 of that average was defensive rebounds.
