Women’s Basketball PCAC North All-Conference Team Announced, 6 Comets Receive Recognition
Six Comets receive recognition for the PCAC North All Conference team; 4 awarded with first team all-conference, 2 with second team all-conference and head coach Leigh Marshall receiving Coach of the year award.
Comets receiving First-Team recognition included Monica Todd, Vinesssa Perryman, Quinesha Vanhook, and Nia de la Pena-Thompson. 2nd team included Kendall Crosby and Nikki Mayoral
Monica Todd, a Sophomore Guard from Mission Hills in San Marcos, receives her 2nd first team all-conference for the Comets as she ended the regular season leading the Comets in points per game with 15.4 scoring a total of 417 points making that 768 on her career here at Palomar. Todd had an impressive field goal percentage of 48.2% which was good for 4th in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference-North. Todd not only led the Comets in points per game but also in rebounds per game with 7.5.
Vinessa Perryman, a sophomore guard out of Valley Center, CA, is another Comet who was awarded First Team, receiving it for the first time in her career. Perryman scored on average 10.9 points per game and was impressive from the 3 shooting 36.2% which was 2nd for the Comets just behind Taite.
Quinesha Vanhook, a sophomore from Eastlake, CA, was also awarded first team as she average 7.8 points per game. Vanhook was able to lead the Comets in assists per game as she average 3.6 on the season. Vanhook had the third most minutes on the team with 15.8 as she played a crucial role for the Comets.
Nia de la Pena-Thompson, a sophomore from Chula Vista, CA, received her first all-conference award as a forward as she led the conference and was second in the state in field goal percentage with an outstanding 61.4%. This percentage led the comets with the next closest being Monica Todd with 48.2%. De le Pena-Thompson finished the season with 9.5 points per game bringing her career total to 9.2.
Our Second Team recipients are Kendall Crosby and Nikki Mayoral. Crosby, a sophomore guard out of Rancho Buena Vista high school, averaged 7.4 points per game as she proved to be one of the Comets most valuable players off the bench. Along with her 7.4 points per game Crosby led the conference in assists to turnover ratio with 6.5. Mayoral, a freshman out of Mission Hills, CA, was the only freshman for the Comets to win the award, shot for 6.8 points per game and 3.2 assists per game. Mayoral played in 18 games for the Comets this year, 6 of which she started. Mayoral gives a positive look for the Comets as she will be returning to her sophomore with a strong freshman campaign with valuable experience.
