Men's Basketball Earns Regional Playoff Berth, Opens Tournament at Long Beach CC

San Marcos—Coach John O'Neill's surging men's basketball team has earned a berth in the 2018 CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoff Tournament and will open play in a first-round match at Long Beach City College on Wednesday (Feb. 21). The game is set for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.

Palomar (16-13), winner of its' final three Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Northern Division games over San Diego Miramar, Mira Costa and College of the Desert, have been seeded 17th among 20 qualifying teams for the regional playoffs. Should the Comets win at Long Beach on Wednesday night, they'll earn a shot at defending-state champion and top-seeded San Diego City College in a road game on Saturday.

In addition to the Comets, the PCAC North landed a total of four teams in the regional bracket, including No. 2-seed San Bernardino Valley, Mt. San Jacinto and Miramar. Palomar's last regional playoff appearance was in the 2015-16 season.
