Women’s Basketball Coasts to Victory, 81-45

2-14-18

The Lady Comets open up scoring early as they take another victory nearing the post-season. Palomar is able to dish out a lot of playing time to almost every player on the roster as they increase their record to 26-1, 6-1 in conference.

On this Valentine's Day matchup at the College of the Desert, the love was in the air for the Comets as they were able to coast to victory in an electric start. The comets went up an early 16-0 before allowing the Desert to score a single point finishing the quarter 29-13. Leading the Comet scorers was Monica Todd as she recorded another double-double in points (21) and rebounds (12) in her 31 minutes of play. Other double digit scorers were Morgan Heise (11) and Clarissa Taite (12). There were 10 different Comets on the night that were able to contribute to the score. Palomar was 28-77 from the field, 7-27 from the 3 point line, and 18-34 on their free throws.

Once again the Comets dominated the ball as they racked up 55 rebounds, 40 offensive and 15 defensive, taking the ball away an impressive 19 times and blocking 2 shots. It was Nikki Mayoral who led the Comets in steals off the bench with 4 and Tianna Shaw with 3. The Comets caused the Roadrunners to turn the ball over 38 times leading to the Comets nearly doubling the score of the game.

The Comets look to finish up the regular season against MiraCosta Friday, February 16th, at home at 6:00pm where they will close out the regular season as well as conference play. The Comets are looking to share the conference championship with MSJC and secure their No. 1 ranking heading into the post-season.
