COMETS OPEN CHAFFEY TOURNEY WITH DOUBLE-OVERTIME WIN

Rancho Cucamonga—Coach John O'Neill's Palomar College basketball team got back on the winning track Wednesday, posting a thrilling 95-86 double-overtime victory over Compton in the opening round of the Chaffey Tournament. Following the win, the Comets will play Citrus, a first-round winner over West L.A., in the championship semifinal round on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

Palomar (10-7), was led by sophomore guard Jackson Strong, who poured in a game-high 23 points, including seven three-point field goals. LaVale Coleman-Bell (16), Matt Meyers (14), Jamario Harris (13) and Anthony Brewer (11) all scored in double-figures as well. Meyers, with 14 rebounds and Coleman-Bell with 10, both completed double-doubles in the win.

Palomar will open its 2018 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference schedule at San Bernardino Valley on January 12.
