Comets rock Orange Coast 112-50 at Cypress to go to 8-0

CYPRESS (12-01-2017) -- The Palomar women's basketball team remained on fire on Friday night in the opening round of the 34th Lady Charger Classic at Don Johnson Court, rolling over Orange Coast 112-50.

Coach Leigh Marshall's Comets (8-0) jumped out to a 32-15 after one quarter and also led 60-31 at halftime and 90-40 after outscoring the Pirates 30-9 in the third quarter.

Monica Todd (20 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals) and Tianana Shaw (19 points, 4 steals) led Palomar.

Vinessa Perryman (13 points, 7 assists, 4 steals) and Kendall Crosby (10 points, 3 assists) joined them in double figures.

Nia De La Pena-Thompson dontributed 9 points and 4 rebounds.

"We shot the ball really well and played hard," Marshall said. "We had a few too many turnovers against a zone,but I throught we cleaned in up in the second half."

The win advances Palomar into the championship semifinals against host Cypess, a 79-45 winner over Santa Monica, in the championship semifinals on Saturday at 7 p.m. The championship game is slated for Sunday at 3 p.m.

With the victory, the Comets remain one of only three unbeaten community colleges left in the state, along with two Northern California teams, College of the Sequoias (9-0) and Sierra (8-0).
