Harbor overcomes Strong's 26 pts, 8 three-pointers

SAN MARCOS (11-26-2017) -- The best Los Angeles Harbor College team to play in the 13-year history of the Palomar Thanksgiving Tournament pulled away late in the consolation championship Sunday and downed the Comets 88-78 at The Dome.

The Seahawks had to overcome another big game by Palomar's Jackson Strong (26 points, 8 three-pointers, 6 rebounds, 3 steals) to pull it off. Strong converted 22 three-pointers during the three-day tournament.

Matt Meyers (16 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists) and Anthony Brewer (13 points, 5-for-6 from the field 1-for-1 from behind the 3-point arc) joined Strong in double figures in Sunday's game. Matt Beeler contributed 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Corday Fairley scored 8 points and Mike Chatman pulled down 8 rebounds.

For Harbor, Henry Johnson led the way with 22 points.

Defending state community college champion San Diego City College received a 17-point, 11-rebound effort from Robert McCoy and 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists from 2014-15 UCLA red-shirt Wonder Smith, the tournament MVP, to win the Thanksgiving tourney for the second straight year by defeating San Diego Miramar 92-79. The Knights, ranked No. 1 in the state again this season, ran their record to 10-2. The Jets are 6-2.

In the third-place game, Santiago Canyon (10-1) defeated Saddleback 79-77 behind Anoine Jenkins' 27 points.
