PC wins battle of unbeatens from Long Beach for title
SAN MARCOS (11-19-2017) -- Scratch Long Beach City College from the list of California Community College women's basketball unbeatens.
Keep Palomar, a state Final Four team a year ago, on the list after the Comets downed the Vikings 82-65 for the championship of the of the Palomar Comet Classic Sponsored by the Fegan Family in the Dome on Sunday.
Palomar goes to 7-0 on the season. Long Beach is 5-1.
Vinessa Perryman, selected as tournament Most Valuable Player, and all-tournament selection Monica Todd led coach Leigh Marshall's Comets in the championship game, scoring 17 points apiece.
Perryman, who buried 3 three-pointers on 6 attempts, also contributed 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks. Todd had 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.
Nia De La Pena Thompson also scored in double figures with 13 points and pulled down 4 rebounds. Quinesha Vanhook (9 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists) and Sophia Neubauer (6 rebounds) also made major contributions.
Doylebonet Walker scored 19 points for the Vikings.
Long Beach stayed even at 26-26 with Palomar for one quarter. But the Comets drew away after that.
West Los Angeles defeated Grossmont 71-42 in the third-place game. The Reedley Tigers took home the consolation title, downing the Riverside City College Tigers 69-63.
