Comets' women's water polo squad falls in tourney finals

SAN DIEGO (11-03-2017) (11-04-2017) -- The Palomar women's water polo team won in the semifinals of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday at San Diego Miramar College, then was defeated by Grossmont on Saturday in the championship game to finish second in the conference.

On Friday, the Comets defeated Grossmont 9-5. In the Saturday title game, they were beaten by San Diego Mesa 10-7.

Friday: Palomar 9, Grossmont 5

Sydney Thomas and Mackenzie Montgomery led the Comets to victory. Montomery fired in 3 goals and also had 3 assists and 5 steals. Thomas also tallied 3 goals and also contributed 2 assists and 4 steals.

Goalie Skylar Buckland had 9 saves for Palomar.

Saturday Championship Game: San Diego Mesa 10, Palomar 7

The Comets got 3 goals each from Thomas and Jordanna Heimback. Thomas also had 2 steals.

Montgomery contributed a goal and 3 assists. Jazmin Handorf had 3 steals and 2 assists. Buckland had 11 saves in the net.
