Comets place 2nd in conference golf finals, make Regional

LAKE SAN MARCOS (11-01-2017) -- Palomar placed second to champion Cuyamaca as the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference concluded a two-day run at St. Mark Golf Club on Wednesday. The Comets' finish catapults them into the upcoming Southern California Community College Regionals.

College of the Desert's Lichi Liu, the No. 1 golfer in the conference who won every PCAC match during the regular season and was honored as conference Player of the Year, was out of the country did not play due to the untimely death of her father in Taiwan.

Cuyamaca won the conference tournament and the overall team championship with a 343-344 scores for a 687 two-day total. Palomar, the host team, was third on Monday's first day and second both on the second day (with a 394 score) and overall (with a 795).

For the Comets, Owings shot a 91-90 -- 181 for the two days. Also for Palomar, Vendetta Lunde shot a 93-103 -- 196, Abby Corona 104-96 -- 200 and Michelle De La Cruz Luna 113-105 -- 218.

Final team scoring for the conference finals:

Cuyamaca 343-344 -- 687; Palomar 401-394 -- 795; COD without its star and the conference's best golfer Liu 4000-399 -- 799; Mt. San Jacinto 405-395 -- 800

Cuyamaca was the overall conference champion and Coyotes coach John Klein received Coach of the Year honors.
