Van Horn, PC beat Jaguars 16-8, lock down 2nd in regular season

CHULA VISTA (10-25-2017) --Dylan Van Horn's six goals led Palomar to a 16-8 victory over Southwestern on Wednesday at Las Palmas Recreation Center Pool and the Comets wrapped up second place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference regular season in the process.

Van Horn, who leads the Comets on the season with 40 goals, also contributed four assists and three steals as coach Kody Moffatt's squad advanced to 3-1 in PCAC play, one game behind regular-season champion Grossmont (4-0). Actual finishes will be decided at the conference tournament.

Joshua Benitez also scored four goals against the Jaguars. Goalie Mike Mendiola had six saves.

In earlier conference action, Palomar defeated San Diego Miramar 14-1 as Toby Fast (2 goals,2 assists, 6 steals), Van Horn (2 goals, 2 assists), John Adam Pearce (2 goals, 2 steals) and Tommy Preston (3 assists) led the way.

And Van Horn (4 goals, 4 assists, 3 steals) and Benitez (4 goals 3 assists, 2 steals) led Palomar past perennial PCAC champion San Diego Mesa 16-8. Pearce had (3 goals) and Jordan Rushworth (4 steals) also had big games.
